I am not going to aver that this volume wouldn’t befuddle someone new to the field, but it’s as gentle with the reader as is possible given that you are following an engineer along as he designs a real-world speaker driver. Junk: The book is what is promised: a practical guide. The choice of a subwoofer driver was a good one as issues like various bass enclosure alignments is given a nice going over.

There is math, but it’s math that any designer likely has good working knowledge of.. I an am electrical engineer of too many years my undergrad degree was gifted to me in , so some of the math carries directly over from signal processing without derivation.

The rest of the audio math I gathered prior to reading this in my “audio-aspirational extracurricular life. Is this an example of the Dunning-Kruger effect? I don’t believe so. I have worked in both computation and semiconductor fields. I generally have a decent appreciation for what one needs to know in order to be successful at a task.

The book has helped me realize where I need more training. The last two sentences above are really where this volume has been helpful. In engineering most anything, there is a logic to the workflow. The task itself is best described by the solution of many discrete parts whilst being mindful of how these tasks will ultimately sum together to complete the larger task.

For the non-engineer, internalizing this lesson is worth the cost of the volume. This part is like a cookbook, but the practices and principles have broader application. It also reads well. It is difficult for me to characterize the book further other than stating it’s both a fun read – if you’re inclined toward such things – and it is logically assembled. I skipped around prior to sitting down figuratively and reading in the usual way.

I did this as I wanted to determine if the book contained enough new information to me to be of value. The answer came slowly, but is a resounding “yes.

The publisher – or other copywriter – describes the content in unhurried, circumspect fashion. I will state again that there is math, but all of it is germane to the task. I think both engineer as long as the reader isn’t a speaker driver engineer and curious other-than-engineer will get much from this book.

I already possessed a few of the pieces of software used by the author to model the subwoofer driver example contained in the book. Having or using the various softwares contained in the book are not necessary to get good data from it.

I didn’t open one program as I was reading. If I do try to design a driver in the next couple of years I will add to what I have and use the book as an assistant. Modeling software is quite powerful, but simply knowing how to do something is no substitute for knowing why.

This book explains why. The best experience was had on my 25″ computer monitor. This is simply due to fact that the book contains lots of charts and graphs that do not accept scaling using the Android Kindle App.

Other versions of Kindle may differ. In any event, a large screen will help. I’ve encountered quite a few issues while using this but it’s not like I wrote them down so I don’t have a list off the top of my head. So if you’re looking for a more advanced review with a list of pros and cons this won’t be it.

All I can really say is that the app itself can be pretty slow at times and that there’s a lot of things that just make it annoying to use. Sometimes it feels like you have to do clicks when it could of just been 1.

However all of the issues are small, it’s still fairly easy to use. It could just be better. I have a Kindle, but this PC app is nice for times when I don’t feel like putting my computer away. My only complaint is that it doesn’t seem to have a feature telling you how many pages are left before the end of the chapter or at least I haven’t found it.

This software is terrible, it doesn’t have one of the most basic feature requirements which is to zoom in on the page like you can easily do with a PDF and then scroll up and down to read a page, books that have images or charts or symbols are unreadable, it locks the height of the page to the height of your screen which is not useful, although it has a option to increase the text size but this only works on literature books, not study text books.

Completely useless don’t bother buying any ebooks for studying if you hope to use this, math’s symbols don’t display properly, they either have alignment issues or display invalid characters. I can’t understand how amazon with all its resources hasn’t asked their development team to do something about this as a priority and make it work, Adobe managed to do it fine with PDFs so it can be done perfectly.

I won’t be buying anymore ebooks, very disappointing. One person found this helpful. If the book isn’t entirely text based this app is useless. This app would benefit from a zoom function, when viewing comic books on it or illustrations in general as the way they look on a PC monitor or laptop screen it is always too small to read the captions or properly pick out the detail of each image. The app has very few features and is very basic, in how it can be used. Would work ok on a good sized tablet, and in general it’s fine for reading books with flowing text – but any books with pictures severely show up the limitations of this product.

I know it is free to download, and Amazon as a company probably don’t want to give as many features as an actual physical Kindle, but I feel less inclined to purchase ebooks when I know that I will have a difficult experience reading some of them with this app.

Having been well used to dedicated Kindle readers, and Kindle reader apps on various Android machines for many years, I am able to give an accurate comparison of this “programme” for a Windows PC. It is not an “app”, because, for some reason Windows 10 does not allow the Kindle reader for an app, as does Android. I can only surmise this is a “political” refusal. Consequently, you need to download the Kindle app from Amazon – which is not an easy task.

Once set-up, it does behave somewhat like the Android Kindle app, but it has some annoying differences. It requires 2 clicks on the Windows 10 Start icon before it opens.

It’s like it needs to be reminded that it has a job to do. One click on the Start icon is not enough. It does register all your library books well, and displays them well.

Left-clicking is not enough. It has 3 background colours for the opened book – white, black or sepia, but no green, like the Android app not a problem – of which the white happens to be GREY. There is a slightly different handling of bookmarks, but it doesn’t take much effort to get used to clicking the almost invisible button in the right margin to open the list.

Reading the books is as you would expect. In conclusion, this Kindle Reader for a PC does not handle smoothly like the Android app, but once you get used to it, it works well enough, and I do use it a lot on my laptop.

The product file names do not show title or author and these are essential to manage a collection when off-line. Needs regular online account management to negate the “furthest page read” debacle whereby a visit to the index at the back relocates the “furthest page read”.
